The Food Gap
01The Grand Span

The
Food
Gap.

We close the distance between you and a place — not by hurrying past it, but by stepping into the homes, kitchens, and studios of the people who live there. Through their food and their art, you come to know a country as it truly is.

Travel deeper. Move Slower. Eat Local.

02The Mantra

We're not
in a rush.

We travel slowly and stay longer. We cross the threshold into the homes of locals and learn a country through the things they make with their hands — the food of their mornings, the art of their afternoons. The gap between traveler and place closes not in miles, but in time shared.

Intentional

Fewer places, longer stays. We choose depth over distance.

Curious

We ask, we watch, we taste. We go where the questions lead.

Down to earth

No velvet ropes. Real homes, real tables, real hands.

03The Journeys

Trips we build, slowly.

Two anchors — Italy and Portugal — and an open road. Expand a journey to see inside.

01

Italy

One table, many mornings.

Hand-marbled paper · Florence
Hand-marbled paper · Florence

Based in Florence and the cittadinas that ring it across Tuscany and Umbria — mornings in Florentine markets and bakeries, afternoons with the bookbinders, potters, and painters of the small cities, and a day in Rome for those who want it. We eat what's made that day and learn Italy through the hands that keep it — the truffle hunters, the olive-oil families, the pasta makers who've done it for generations.

Who you'll meet
Bookbinder & paper marbler

In a Florence studio, watching pigments combed into marbled sheets, then bound into books that outlast us.

Truffle hunting

Pre-dawn walks in the fog with dogs trained since birth — a secret spoken in earth.

Olive oil farmers

Hands worn by harvest, oil pressed the way their great-grandparents taught.

Ceramicists

Forms thrown on wheels unchanged for centuries; every piece fired with memory. Craft a piece of clay to your liking.

Nonna's tiramisu

She took 2nd on the Italian Bake-Off. She made it for us on a Tuesday, just because.

04The Estimator

Shape the trip, see the investment.

Choose a country, a length, and how many of you. The estimate breaks apart so you can see exactly what flights, stays, and experiences add up to — per person, all-in. It's a planning tool, not a price tag; the published packages set the exact number, and we'll confirm every line with you before you book.

06The Makers

Two makers, one gap to close.

The food

Evan

ArtistChefFounder

I'm Evan — a creative artist and a chef, from Maine. As a kid I filled sketchbooks with cartoons, houses, and faces, and by high school I'd become an aspiring artist.

The path here was long and circuitous, but it bent, finally, toward entrepreneurship — and toward this.

My passion for food and art fires on all cylinders now. I find healing in writing about the family recipes I grew up on, the new ones I'm always chasing, and the foods inspired by my travels, my friendships, my favorite memories. The Food Gap is where all of it meets — and where I get to bring you along.

Jake

PhotographerStorytellerCo-founder

A bit of a nomad, a Southwestern street photographer. I find myself absorbed in conversation with worlds near and far — enamored with the ideas of loneliness and community, always scanning sidewalks and avenues for the intimate, fleeting moments that would otherwise be lost to monotony and crowds.

My work has shown at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and New York Fashion Week, in a litany of liberal-arts colleges, in The Sun Magazine and on the covers of Wabash Magazine, and in creative productions for traveling musicians.

Most importantly, the travels with you.
